Looking through pictures I took this past week made me reflect upon the many changes autumn brings to my area. My reflection time also made me realize that every season has changes that make each day unique and move us forward in life.
These thoughts and the pictures from the week inspired the following poem:
Amid the World Turning
Leaf from a tree, falling, falling down,
Bee after bee buzzing around
Attracted to the sedums’ flowers
Attached through the Lord’s great power
Woven within nature’s art
To show the sprit within how to depart
Upon the journey of a lifetime
Amid the world turning through day and night.
Breeze gently blowing across the field,
Green now, but soon to yield
To the shorter days and longer nights
That dip and sway in the river of time,
Bobbing up and down and from side to side
Amid the world turning ‘round under heaven’s skies.
Sweet, sweet smell of fresh cut grass,
Deep, deep bell tolling before Sunday’s mass,
Golden sunrise and red sunset,
Hold, hold on time for just a moment
To allow the mind, body, and spirit
A bit of light and the courage to near it
Awakened by the burning need to rise
Amid the world turning by God’s grace divine.
Moon and stars in the sky
Able to woo the heart inside,
Allowing a few moments peace
Full of truth and perspective to see
The beauty and wonder of the clearing sky
As the clouds give way to the sun’s light
And the colors ebb and flow
To create a stellar show
Full of learning opportunities to be found
Amid the world turning like a merry-go-round.
Amid the world turning, may the soul find
A cure for any hurting and peace in time,
Allowing love to flow from the river
Of heaven above to deliver
The spirit to its destiny
Possible through life’s mystery.
